Ar.Pe.Pe. Rosso di Valtellina is a barrel-aged red wine made with the Nebbiolo variety in the heart of Valtellina, Lombardia by the Ar.Pe.Pe. Family winery. Although there are more than 150 years of experience behind Ar.Pe.Pe., it was not until the arrival of Arturo Pellizzatti Perego in 1984 that they started producing world-renowned Nebbiolos. His legacy continues today with the same passion through the founder’s three children.

The Rosso di Valtellina comes from several plots in Valtellina lying at an altitude of 350 to 400 metres and planted on granite and schist soils. Because the vines lie on a very steep hillside, the harvest is manual and carried on shoulders in small baskets. Once the grapes reach the winery, they are thoroughly selected, and the grapes are gently pressed and left to macerate for 90 days. Following spontaneous fermentation, the wine is aged six months in barrel before being bottled. Since 2014, Ar Pe Pe has been experimenting with longer macerations seeking greater complexity and balance. This Rosso sees a long 130 days on the skins. Self-assured yet unpretentious, it offers oodles of joyous drinkability. The tea and white pepper scents are assertive and focused, while the palate is lovely, with powdery tannins melting into the strawberry core. It finishes clean with a peppermint twist.
