From the Dal Forno family is an extraordinary wine that could have only come from a genuinely devastating vintage: 2014. They are arguably known for their most well-known label, "Amarone Della Valpolicella": one of the most challenging styles of wine to make due not only to the fact that it takes time and energy but that a producer will lose more than 50% of the juice itself. Grapes are dried out for up to 120 days, slowly pressed and fermented for up to 50 days, only to sit in the bottle for 2-20 years to reach their full potential. So when a hail storm devastated the vineyard, followed by consistent rainfall throughout the rest of the summer, the grapes were too thin and fragile to dry. This forced all concentrated efforts towards the already fabulous Valpolicella Superiore.

This rich, velvety wine has a bouquet of fig, crushed strawberries, and forest floor. At the same time, flavours of cinnamon, blood orange and vanilla bean are framed by bold tannins accented by dried lavender and sandalwood, creating a lingering finish.

Get this wine if you are concentrated and focused but, more than anything, want a fantastic example of embracing life despite the challenges. Pair with Tuscan style Veal Chops with fresh herbs and apricot.
