Created in the belief that the most significant thing the winery can do to enhance Pinot Noir in the Willamette Valley is to increase the genetic diversity of clonal selections. Every year Chad creates a Pinot Noir from heirloom clones to help raise awareness of the lack of diversity in genetics across the valley.

Each wine reflects vintage variation, of course, but also characteristics based on site differences and clonal selection from year to year. Working with heirloom clones across all of wines, every year, they create a bottling of Pinot Noir that is 100% free of Dijon clones. This year, 70% of the fruit for the Dijon-Free Pinot is from Johan Vineyards, offering its saline and savory characters, and the Pommard is from Eola Springs, own-rooted and full of spice and tannin. Together, they create a stunning expression of Pinot Noir, without a Dijon clone in sight.
