Verónica Ortega Cobrana is a red wine produced by Verónica Ortega in Valtuille de Abajo (León) D.O. Bierzo.

Verónica Ortega , natural from Cádiz and trained in the best wineries of Burgundy and Priorat, was attracted to the terroir of El Bierzo. She decided to settle in Valtuille de Abajo to start to produce her own wines, thus initiating her most personal project.

Verónica Ortega mainly works with old Mencía vineyards using organic precepts. Vinification is carried out traditionally, with spontaneous fermentation using native yeasts and low amounts of sulphites. Wines that are faithful to the terroir, with character and a great personality.

Verónica Ortega Cobrana is a wine made with Mencía, Palomino, Doña Blanca, Godello and other varieties from a vineyard that is over 90 years old, located at 750 metres and planted on weathered slate and clay soils.

They are manually harvested and placed in 15-kg boxes. Once they arrive at the winery, the whole bunches are macerated in open cone-shaped wooden foudres of 3000 litres, where they ferment with native yeasts. The malolactic fermentation and the ageing take place in 228-litre French oak barrels and 800-litre amphorae for 13 months.

Verónica Ortega Cobrana 2017 is a juicy red wine with aromas of red fruit, spicy notes and touches of violets and wild herbs. On the palate it is fragrant, fresh and mineral. Medium bodied with a pleasant texture and a flavoursome finish.
