Fielding Syrah 2016
Richie Roberts is the winemaker at Fielding and has been since 2009. His claim to fame has been sourcing grapes from single varietal vineyards around the area (that is to say, vineyards specializing in growing one grape). Fielding does have their own vineyard; nonetheless, Richie sources from some of the best vineyards in Niagara to make the best wine that he can.
Having sourced this Syrah from the Lowry vineyard, one of the region's best-known vineyards, this has been an ongoing experiment. This case proves that Niagara Syrah's has incredible ageing potential. This could not be more true. This wine has the classic impressions that you get from some of the best French Syrah: smoky, savoury, toasty, and prevalent blackberry, licorice, and eucalyptus flavours.
Get this wine if you are already a fan of Syrah/Shiraz, and line it up next to some of your favourites. Prepared to be wowed. This is a burger on the BBQ kind of wine, whether it's a big ol' venison burger or a substantial portobello mushroom monster.
