A seemingly unassuming photograph was taken in 1967 of a man with knee-high billy boots and a half-cocked beret who looks like an equal parts farmer and a French new wave film director. Stoically posing next to his newly planted grape vines, he seems naturally predisposed to farm life. This is Tom Cullity, doctor-turned-vigneron who happens to be the first person to plant grape vines along the Margaret River in Australia - a place now synonymous with some of the best wines taking flight across the pond.

The Roman philosopher Seneca once said, "Luck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity." Vasse Felix embodies the sentiment through name and practice alike. As one of Australia's most renowned Chardonnay's, the Heytesbury is sourced from small plot vineyards with specifically chosen French Chardonnay clones. With the use of native yeasts, and a cool, late harvest season, this low intervention wine has a driving sense of power and ripeness, while nine months in barrel and on its lees give the wine a rich and resonant flavour profile. The florals of lime blossom and lemongrass are woven together with pink grapefruit and candlewax aromas, with notes of flint and vanilla bean on the palate, allowing for a savoury and complex wine that can easily be cellared or enjoyed tonight!
