Juan Jesús, who is a 4th generation winemaker, founded Viñátigo in 1990 and has worked tirelessly since then identifying, recuperating the native grapes of the Canary Islands.

Brought to the Canary Islands by the Portuguese in the 16th century, Juan Jesús found the grape Gual in the island of El Hierro in the late 90's. It was, together with the grape Marmajuelo, the first almost extinct variety tha Viñátigo recuperated. It was brought from the island of Madeira, where it is known as Boal. In Tenerife, the grape finds the perfect environment to ripen, and is made as a dry wine.

Viñátigo's Gual is fermented 50% in stainless steel tanks and 50% in concrete eggs. It is incredibly aromatic: with layers of smokiness, floral notes such as jasmine; and tropical fruits like pineapples. On the palate, it has a creamy texture, with an amazing balanced acidity.
