Luigi Baudana Barolo Serralunga 2017
G.D. Vajra Luigi Baudana Barolo Baudana is a wood-aged red wine made by G.D. Vajra with the Nebbiolo variety in the DOCG Barolo, in Piedmont, Italy. Running one of the smallest active wineries in the entire Barolo region, with only 2.6 hectares of land, Luigi Baudana is a truly fearless producer. In 2009, he joined the three GD Vajra brothers to create Barolos with new energy and with an uncompromising respect for tradition.
G.D. Vajra Luigi Baudana Barolo Baudana comes from 50-year-old vineyards located 350 metres above sea level. The vines are planted in blue clay soils and cultivated using respectful agriculture. The harvest is carried out manually at the optimum point of ripeness. In the winery, the grapes ferment for 30 days plus another 10 days of maceration. Most of the must is fermented in a large oak barrel and some stainless steel containers. Finally the wine is aged in large Slavonian oak barrels for 32 months.
Delicately heavy, this wine has an elegant and juicy characteristics.Rich in aromas of dark cherries and raspberry, sour plum and marinated apricot, with a hint of black tea and pine needles. Refined and polished this structured and delicious wine, the juicy palate is youthfully austere, delivering ripe Marasca cherry, crushed raspberry, baking spice and licorice framed in noble tannins before a black tea finish. The layered and textured palate shows supple tannins and a fresh round finish. Austere and very mineral expression of Barolo
