Cooperative of Gandesa Somindinou Negre Joven 2019
In the region of Terra Alta (or “high land” as it is directly translated), is the historical cooperative of Gandesa. Founded in 1919, when different families gathered forces, they became most noted for their hand constructed winery. A modernist building, designed by Cesar Martinell, one of Gaudí’s most acclaimed disciples, this building has become one of the 7 wonders of Catalonia.
While the Cooperative has 453 members, Somdinou translates as “We are 19” because the wine is produced from the grapes of the same 19 members every year. The brand symbolises the origins of the Cooperative, and its name indicates the union of the strength of the partners to build the key to the future.
The grapes come from old vines, and are fermented macerated in stainless steel tanks for about 20-25 days. Part of the wine rests in oak for about 3-4 months.
Aromas of cherry and red berry with hints of liquorice and spices on the nose. Medium weight, fleshy, and juicy red & black fruit on the palate, balanced acidity, fine tannin, a hint of smoke on the finish.
