“Celtas” means Celts, one of the first groups that the ancient Romans pushed to the edge of their empire on the northwest coast of Spain along the Atlantic ocean. The name was given to express how different the wine and culture are in this area of Spain as Rías Baixas is a very particular region in terms of winemaking. Most notably, this is expressed through the Albariño grape that is usually grown along the coastline. Being more inland, the lack of rainfall and humidity makes for typically riper flavours.

Refreshing, mineral and with a finish of salinity, Albariño is one of the most straightforward wines to pair with food. Campos de Celtas is a very bright and light golden coloured wine with aromas of apricot, pear hay and fennel. Complete and intense, with greater weight and fullness than a typical Albariño and a slightly lower acidity, it is still very mineral and has a slight effervescence at the finish.

Get this Albariño as an alternative to Pinot Gris and Pinot Grigio as Albariño’s natural salinity makes for a wine that almost “seasons” your food. This particular wine does not have a lot of acidity, making it an easy-drinking wine without food; however, the rule of thumb is to drink with Albariño if it comes from the sea.
