Chateau Coupe-Roses Les Plots Minervois 2020
The vineyards of Coupe-Roses glint white in the Occitan sunshine from the decomposed limestone that dominates the soil. On this rocky plateau - at about 300m elevation, one of the highest in the AOP – garrigue, olives and vines thrive. The domaine is very much a family affair, founded by Françoise and Pascal Le Calvez in 2007 and now joined by son Mathias and daughter Sarah. Covering about 40 hectares, the vineyards are organic certified, and the elevation provides elegance and freshness in these classically styled wines.
The classic southern blend of Syrah, Grenache, and Carignan is so agile — perfumed up front, but finishes with a beautiful richness, with just enough tannin to give it some great length. The dominant grape, Syrah, leads with a fruity character of cherry, blackcurrant, and plum alongside a touch of spice and round tannins. The finish is complex, with a hint of fresh garden herbs bringing even more depth.
