Domaine Regnard Christian Chassagne-Montrachet 2018
Some would argue that the very best of Chardonnay can be found along the 25-kilometre strip that is the Cote De Beaune, in the sunny southern hillsides of Burgundy, France. The area exudes a type of class and dignity as even the gorgeous pink, and beige flagstones found in and around the area went into the building of the Louvre Pyramid in Paris, France. The opulent extravagance that can be found in this style of wine is virtually unparalleled, and winemakers all across the world have been trying to replicate it for decades.
4th generation winemaker, Florian Regnard, named best young winemaker of the Cote de Beaune in 2019, represents a new generation of Burgundian winemakers that have been making a point to not only keep the tradition of making these powerful Chardonnays but also, simultaneously finding a way to marry traditions with new technologies all the while being environmentally conscientious. Luxury is the name of the game here, with notes of apple, lemon thyme and freshly toasted crème brulee on the nose and fresh earthy flavours of truffle, toasted almonds and hazelnut on the palate.
