Veronica Ortega "Kinki" 2020
Kinki 2020 is 'wine from Paraje La llamilla. Villa de Congosto. ' It is the third vintage of this cuvé from a single vineyard located in Cobrana, a small town with a deep-rooted wine-growing tradition in Bierzo Alto, bordering the Bierzo Designation of Origin. This vineyard, with an altitude of 750m, has an interesting blue slate soil, combined with red clay. The vines are 90 - 100 years plus.
This Kinki is aged in 800 litre amphora for 8 months, to keep a fresh and light profile. The aging process took place under a thick and thin veil, with the scent of lemon and green apple. This has undoubtedly contributed to a sharpening of the wine's profile, making it much more saline and electric. Kinki has a very different meaning in Spanish, a reference to people living on the margins in the 1990s, or at least that is the inspiration for this wine.
Kinki is a wine with a light texture but a precise balance. It has very little colour but it does have an intense nose of red fruit, currants, acidic strawberries and raspberries, and a slightly balsamic (even medicinal) background, adding a fresh, elegant and subtle quality to the wine.
