Sebastien Brunet La Rocherie NV
All things considered, Vouvray is an anomaly. This tiny village in France is known primarily for growing and making some great wine from Chenin Blanc. Traditionally these have been sweeter style wines, so it’s a delight to watch born-and-raised local Sebastien Brunet decide to go for a more dry style while simultaneously converting his property to a low intervention, sustainable and organic practising one.
While this wine is made in the same classic style as Champagne, Brunet’s take on a 100% Chenin Blanc sparkling is anything but what you’d expect. With flavours on the side of apricot, peach, orange peel and honey, there is also a generous punch of almond skin before diving into a pool of zippy acidity.
Get this if you want to go off the beaten path and try something a little different. Would be killer with scallops or grilled cheese.
