Leaning Post Pinot Noir 2019
This wine is a blend of 4 different vineyards from across Niagara. They were hand-picked and hand-sort on October 4th, 10th and 15th. Each vineyard was fermented separately, with 25% whole-cluster fruit and 75% de-stemmed. They were left to cold soak for 2 to 3 days before a spontaneous ferment started, followed by punch-downs by hand twice a day for 3 weeks. Once fermentation was finished, the wine remained on skins for 3-5 days before being gently pressed. It was then transferred to French oak barrels (18% new, 30% 1-year-old, 52% older) and aged for 15 months. The 2019 Pinot Noir was bottled on May 12th, 2021.
A blend of fruit from 4 different vineyards from the best appellations across Niagara, the 2019 Pinot Noir is the epitome of the Leaning Post style. This wine combines classic “P(inot)-funk” flavours of beet root, earth, leaves and dirt with stunning bing cherry, raspberry, and mulberry. Made in a style that is slightly more approachable than our single-vineyard Pinots, it still shows incredible depth and complexity. The incredibly supple mouthfeel, medium body and balanced acidity frame exceptional flavour intensity, leading to a long, sweeping finish the ends on a decidedly mineral and crunchy note. This wine will age for 4 to 5 years.
