From one of the best areas of Beaujolais, Moulin-a-vent, is a genuinely uncommon wine. Richard Rottier is originally from Chablis, an area known for making wines that are dry, sharp and focused. However, the reputation of Beaujolais airs somewhere along the lines of elegant fruit juice. But sweet and sparkling? Not really. This 100% Gamay’s fermentation was stopped early to retain natural sweetness. Still, the most bewildering thing about this wine is that you’d expect it to be heavy on the red fruit flavours, but the most predominant notes are peach, pear and fresh violet.

Get this wine if you have a sweet tooth or make a gentle transition between sweet beverages and wine. It’s low in alcohol and is a luscious option with any fruit-based dessert.
