Vineland Estates Pinot Meunier 2017
Vineland Estates’ near Disney-esque property sits atop the Niagara escarpment looking over the kingdom of the Twenty Mile Bench. While this sustainable practising vineyard is known primarily for its Riesling and Cabernet France, winemaker Brian Shmidt is a risk-taker, and nothing showcases that spirit better than the growth of his Pinot Meunier.
Most commonly found in a champagne blend, the grape is difficult to grow in Niagara, making it a rarity in our corner of the world. This wine is most closely related to Pinot Noir and has dark raspberry, red plum, and sweet red beat notes. The ten months spent in oak give it the touch of nutmeg and vanilla pod, delicately balancing with punchy acidity.
Get this wine if you are looking for an excuse to sound like you are calling for a french butler with a tiny moustache or planning on having Peking duck.
