RR81 (The Farm) Rotburger Zweigelt 2022
“The Farm” a 10-acre vineyard in Niagara’s Twenty Mile Bench, planted to Pinot Noir. A decade and many parties later at The Farm’s creation, a new generation is experimenting with a different approach. RR81 wines are made in the barn with a bin, a bucket, and an old basket press. Simply fermented grapes – nothing added. A little more zeal for adventure & experimentation, but with family still at the core.
This wine was inspired by a trip to Austria over 20 years ago where Grandfather Peter Neudorf became fascinated by Zweigelt (Rotburger). His daily ritual of a bottle of red necessitated a wine that showcases freshness, but also lower alcohol at 10%.
Naturally fermented, this red is unfined and unfiltered, aged in neutral French oak and amphoras for 5 months. A tart nose of cherry, licorice and black pepper followed by flavours of cranberry and sour cherry. Smooth, dry tannins on the palate of this light/medium-bodied wine.
