Hidden Bench Terroir Caché 2017
One of Ontario’s most praised low-intervention wineries, Hidden Bench, only uses certified organic fruit. In many ways, just as importantly, they make great wine that really gives you a sense of place; some might say terroir.
Terroir Caché essentially translates to a hidden area. Of course, this is oversimplifying the idea of terroir, but we are looking at three different grape varieties, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Malbec, hand-picked from three different vineyards in the Beamsville Bench area of Niagara; Rosomel, Locust Lane and Felseck Vineyards.
It’s a Bordeaux style blend, which is to say that this is a classic style wine emulating the good stuff from France. It has blackberry flavours, with a kiss of tobacco leaf and some smoky baking spices. The acidity and tannin are unmistakable, making for a great protein pairing.
Get this wine if you want to take things slow. This is not a wine that you throwback. It seems only fair to pair it with a braised Sunday roast that your grandma used to make. Whatever you decide to cook or order, take your time!
Hidden Bench Terroir Caché 2017 is backordered and will ship as soon as it is back in stock.
