Mate Famiglia Brunello Di Montalcino 2018
All work in the organic vineyards and cellar is done meticulously by hand. Only perfectly mature, carefully selected grapes are harvested into 20 kilo cassettes. Fermented with indigenous yeasts in temperature-controlled vats, the must is pumped over and manually punched down. The wine matures for up to 3 years in 500 and 4,000 liter French oak, and ages in bottles for a minimum of 6 months.
A beautiful expression of Tuscan Sangiovese opens with a smoky mix of sweet berries and cherries, accentuated by minty herbs and lavender on the nose. It splashes across the palate with ripe wild berry fruits and hints of tropical citrus to add a vibrant, tangy element. The 2018 tapers off with an exotic flourish of spices and florals, subtle tannins and light undertones of oak. While lightly structured, this is a highly expressive interpretation of the vintage with a long, juicy finish.
